Vietnam eSIM with a phone number — which plans have one, and what it can really do
Most travel eSIMs for Vietnam are data-only — no number, so nobody can call or text you. The exception is a Vinaphone eSIM: every Vinaphone plan, whatever its length, comes with a real Vietnamese +84 number that receives incoming calls and ordinary SMS, so Grab drivers, hotels and restaurants can reach you. One limit to know before you buy: it does not receive app or bank verification codes (OTP), because a prepaid tourist line is not a registered subscriber line. Viettel and Skyfi plans, like Airalo and Holafly, are data-only.

*No plan can make outgoing calls or send SMS — the carrier blocks outbound service on these tourist SIMs, and topping up the prepaid balance does not unlock it. The number still receives calls and SMS normally. To call out, use a data app such as WhatsApp, Zalo or Messenger.

All eSIMs on this site are tourist eSIMs. The daily allowance runs at full carrier speed and then stops until midnight Vietnam time — it is never slowed to a crawl. You can buy more data from the carrier mid-plan, but paying for it is awkward from abroad because it goes through Vietnam's prepaid top-up system, so treat the daily allowance as the real limit and pick a plan with enough of it. When the validity period ends the eSIM is switched off automatically and cannot be extended: buy another plan if you need more days.

Most do not — Airalo, Holafly and most travel eSIMs (and our own Viettel and Skyfi plans) are data-only. Our Vinaphone plans are the exception: each comes with a real Vietnamese +84 number that receives ordinary SMS and incoming calls. It does not receive app or bank verification codes.
No — and that holds for prepaid tourist eSIMs generally, ours included. Verification codes are automated messages that only reach a Vietnamese line registered to an ID, and a tourist eSIM is not one. Our Vinaphone number does receive ordinary SMS and incoming calls, so people can text and ring you; keep your home SIM active for the codes.
