Vietnam eSIM Phone Compatibility: Full List (iPhone

Vietnam eSIM works on iPhone XS and newer models sold outside of mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau. For Samsung, the Galaxy S20+, Note20+, Z Fold/Flip series, and all Galaxy S21 through S25 models globally support eSIM. Google Pixel 3 and newer (including 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9) are also fully compatible. Xiaomi’s eSIM support is very limited — only the Xiaomi 12T Pro and a few other models sold in specific markets include eSIM; most Xiaomi phones lack it entirely.

To confirm your phone’s compatibility, you can check in Settings > About Phone > SIM Status for an eSIM indicator, or look for an “Add eSIM” option in the connections menu. Alternatively, you can verify using your phone’s IMEI with the carrier’s official eSIM support list. We don’t run our own tests, but manufacturer specifications are reliable for determining compatibility.

Apple introduced eSIM with the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR in 2018. All subsequent models (iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 series) include eSIM, but only on non-China/HK/Macau variants. iPhones purchased in mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macau physically lack eSIM hardware — they use dual physical nano-SIMs instead. This means they cannot use any eSIM, including Vietnam travel eSIMs.

For US travelers, note that iPhone 14 and 15 models sold in the United States have no physical SIM slot — they are eSIM-only. These work perfectly in Vietnam with a local eSIM. Japanese iPhones (from docomo, au, or SoftBank) usually have eSIM enabled only on SIM-free models or after the carrier unlocks the device. If you bought an iPhone in Japan from a carrier, check that it is unlocked before relying on eSIM.

Samsung’s eSIM support began with the Galaxy S20, S20+, S20 Ultra, Note20, and Note20 Ultra — all confirmed globally. The Galaxy S21, S22, S23, S24, and S25 series all have eSIM (except some carrier-locked US variants where the feature may be disabled). For foldable users, the Galaxy Z Fold 2/3/4/5/6 and Z Flip 3/4/5/6 support eSIM, making it easy to keep your home number active while adding Vietnam data.

The Galaxy A series is more limited: only select models like the A54, A55, and A73 include eSIM. You should check per model. Korean carrier models (KT, SKT, LGU+) generally have eSIM active, and dual SIM (physical + eSIM) works well for retaining your home number. If you have a US carrier-locked Samsung, check with your carrier whether eSIM is enabled.

Google Pixel phones from the Pixel 3 onward (including 3 XL, 3a, 4, 4a, 5, 5a, 6, 6 Pro, 7, 7 Pro, 8, 8 Pro, 9, 9 Pro) all support eSIM. Unlike iPhones, there are no hardware exclusions by market — every Pixel sold globally has eSIM capability. This makes Pixel a very reliable choice for Vietnam eSIM travel.

Beyond the major brands, a few other models work: OnePlus 11 and 12 (global models), and the Oppo Find X5 Pro have eSIM. Xiaomi’s only eSIM device is the Xiaomi 12T Pro, and even then it is limited to certain markets. Budget or older phones from Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, and Realme almost never include eSIM. For those, you should stick to a physical SIM card or buy an eSIM from our list if your device is confirmed compatible.

The quickest way to confirm eSIM compatibility is through your phone’s settings. On iPhone, go to Settings > General > About and look for an “Available SIMs” or eSIM section. On Samsung, go to Settings > Connections > SIM card manager — if an “Add eSIM” option appears, the phone supports it. On most Android phones (including Pixel), you can check Settings > About Phone > SIM Status for an eSIM indicator or a second IMEI number.
