Vietnam 5G coverage 2026: Which carrier reaches your

Viettel operates the most extensive 5G network in Vietnam as of 2026, covering all major cities, tourist hubs, and many remote areas such as Sapa, Phu Quoc, and Ha Long Bay. Its 5G signal is available in central districts of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Hue, Da Lat, and near Phu Quoc airport.

Vinaphone 5G is strong in urban centers like Hanoi, HCMC, and Da Nang, but coverage drops quickly outside city limits and along highways. Mobifone 5G is limited mainly to HCMC and Hanoi, with sparse rural and remote coverage. For any trip that includes rural or mountainous destinations, we recommend choosing Viettel. If you stay strictly in cities, Vinaphone or Mobifone are sufficient and often cheaper.

Viettel’s official coverage maps show 5G in all central districts of Hanoi, HCMC, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Hue, Da Lat, and the Phu Quoc airport area. 5G along National Highway 1A between Hanoi and HCMC is intermittent; however, Viettel 4G is consistently available all along the route. Travelers should not rely on continuous 5G for long stretches at high speed.

Tourist towns like Sapa, Ha Giang, and Phan Thiet have limited 5G only in the town center; 4G LTE is the reliable fallback. Viettel is the only carrier with confirmed 5G on Cat Ba Island and near Ha Long Bay (Bai Chay area), making it the best choice for visitors to those locations.

Vinaphone 5G is deployed in downtown Hanoi (Hoan Kiem, Ba Dinh), District 1–3 of Ho Chi Minh City, and central Da Nang around My Khe Beach. Coverage drops quickly outside these zones; for example, there is no Vinaphone 5G in Hue or Ha Long Bay as of early 2026.

Vinaphone’s 4G coverage is excellent in cities but weaker than Viettel in rural areas. If your trip stays within the downtown cores of major cities, Vinaphone 5G will serve you well for typical urban connectivity needs.

Mobifone 5G is limited to HCMC (District 1, 2, 7), Hanoi (Cau Giay, Dong Da), and Da Nang (Hai Chau district). There is no 5G coverage in tourist destinations such as Nha Trang, Sapa, or Phu Quoc, except near Tan Son Nhat airport in HCMC.

Mobifone 4G is adequate for city use but generally slower than Viettel and Vinaphone in remote areas. If your itinerary is strictly urban and you want a budget-friendly option, Mobifone can work, but we recommend Viettel for any off-the-beaten-path travel.

If your itinerary includes Sapa, Ha Giang, Phu Quoc, Hai Van Pass, or the Mekong Delta, choose Viettel. Only Viettel provides reliable data (4G/5G) in these areas based on published coverage information.

If you are only visiting Hanoi, HCMC, and Da Nang, any carrier works. Vinaphone or Mobifone may offer slightly cheaper plans, so consider them if you want to save a few dollars and stay in city centers.

For digital nomads working from Da Lat or Vung Tau, Viettel is recommended for stable video call connections due to its broader 4G coverage as a fallback. Before buying, check your specific destinations on OpenStreetMap or the carrier's official coverage maps if you have particular concerns about remote spots.

5G in Vietnam is not yet widespread enough to depend on for critical connectivity. 4G LTE is reliable and fast in all tourist areas, typically sufficient for maps, social media, messaging, and video calls.

5G benefits only if you download large files, stream 4K video, or need very low latency for cloud gaming or high-definition video calls. For typical tourist use, 4G is sufficient, and there is no need to pay extra just for 5G.
