SIM Card at Hanoi Airport (Noi Bai): 2026 Guide

Noi Bai's international arrivals hall has carrier counters (Viettel, Vinaphone and Mobifone) after immigration and baggage claim. You hand over your passport, pick a tourist plan, and the staff install and activate the SIM on the spot. It works on any phone, including older handsets with no eSIM support, which is its main advantage.

The downsides are time and price. After a late or delayed flight there can be a real queue, and airport counters usually charge a tourist markup over the same plan bought directly. One thing to know: these tourist plans give you a daily high-speed data cap that resets at midnight Vietnam time, and they run for a fixed number of days — there's no mid-trip top-up or extension. Pick the duration that matches your stay. Direct-carrier prices like these are typically lower than the airport counter and far below global 'unlimited' resellers such as Airalo or Holafly ($27–75).

Most tourist SIMs and eSIMs for Vietnam are data-only — no local number. That's fine for maps and messaging, but it bites the moment a Vietnamese service tries to reach you: a Grab or Xanh SM driver calling to find you, a hotel confirming your booking, a bank sending a one-time code (OTP) by SMS, or registering for Zalo, Vietnam's main messaging app.
