Mobifone eSIMs, offered through our Skyfi partner, provide 7GB of high-speed data per day at prices ranging from $8 to $11 for durations of 7 to 15 days. That's more daily data than typical tourist plans from Viettel or Vinaphone, which usually cap at 5GB/day for similar or slightly higher prices.

However, these plans are strictly data-only. You will not receive a Vietnamese phone number, so you cannot receive SMS (including OTP from banks or apps) or make traditional calls. For voice communication, use WhatsApp, Zalo, or other VoIP apps over data. This setup works best for travelers on short trips (15 days or less) to beach cities like Da Nang and Nha Trang, where 4G and 5G coverage is strong.

The eSIM activates upon arrival in Vietnam and is compatible with most modern smartphones: iPhone XS and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, Google Pixel 3 and up, and many others. Note that Chinese, Hong Kong, and Macau models may not support eSIM — check your device's compatibility before purchase.

Each day resets at midnight Vietnam time, and once you exceed 7GB in a day, speeds are throttled to 128kbps (carrier policy) — enough for messaging but not for streaming.

Unlike some global eSIMs, there are no hidden fees or activation charges. The price you see is the total cost. These plans are not extendable or top-upable; once the validity expires or data is consumed, you'll need to purchase a new plan. For most short-stay tourists, 7GB/day is ample for maps, social media, video calls, and even some streaming.

In Da Nang, Mobifone's 4G and 5G coverage is strong along the popular coastal areas — My Khe Beach, Son Tra Peninsula, and the city center. You'll also get good signal in Hoi An, about 30 minutes south. In more rural spots or the outskirts of Ba Na Hills, signal may weaken, but basic data (maps, messaging) still works.

In Nha Trang, reliable 4G covers the main Tran Phu beach strip, the city center, and Cam Ranh International Airport. Coverage drops on remote islands (e.g., Hon Mun) but is solid in all tourist hubs. Overall, Mobifone's performance in these cities is comparable to Vinaphone; Viettel still has a slight edge in very remote areas. Travelers rarely report significant dead zones for everyday data use like Google Maps, Instagram, or WhatsApp calls.

After purchase, you'll receive a QR code via email. Do not scan it before arriving in Vietnam — activation requires a local network. On arrival, connect to airport or hotel WiFi, then go to your phone's settings: on iPhone, navigate to Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM and scan the QR code. On Android, go to Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Add eSIM.

Once scanned, the network should register automatically. If you don't get data within 5 minutes, try manually selecting 'Mobifone' from the network operators list, or restart your phone. If you use dual SIM, ensure the Mobifone eSIM is set as the primary for mobile data, while keeping your home SIM active for calls on the second line.

Compared to Viettel and Vinaphone tourist eSIMs, Mobifone offers more daily data (7GB vs 5GB) at a lower or similar price. For example, our 7-day Mobifone plan is $8, while a comparable Viettel 7-day plan is $9.9. However, Viettel and Vinaphone eSIMs include a Vietnamese phone number, which allows receiving SMS (for OTP) and incoming calls — useful for Grab drivers or hotel contact. Mobifone does not.

Airalo's Vietnam eSIM also uses the Mobifone network but typically costs $1–2 more for the same data bucket and also lacks a local number.
